Through practical demonstrations, competitions, lectures or just by talking
to others about photography, the society's aim is to help its members learn
more about the art: to encourage the development of photographic skills
and the appreciation of photography.
Advice is always on hand, no matter how experienced or inexperienced you
are.

The Society is one of the oldest such organisations in the country, and
was born during the mid 1800's when a number of people interested in the
science of photography formed the Norwich Photographic Society in June 1854.
This initial society existed for seven years and had an influence on the
development of photography far greater than its provinical origins merited
- reports on early meetings are archived with the Royal Photographic Society.
The present society was formed in 1903 by a group of photographers from
organisations such as the YMCA and Teachers' Field Club, together with a
number of interested individuals, who met under the guidance of Albert Edward
Coe. Since then the club has met regularly except during WWII when activities
and Annual Exhibitions were temporarily suspended.
Nowadays membership stands at around 90 people, drawn from all walks of
life, who have a common interest in the art of photography. Interests differ
from conventional darkroom processing to cutting edge digital technology.
The society is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain
through the East Anglian Federation of Photographic Societies, and has links
with other locals clubs as well as Foto Club Koblenz, Norwich's twinned
city.
