I did not see the picture but Mann Egertons on Prince of Wales Rd was my first job at age 15 . I remember the office so well high up and I did typing and mail etc. My father also worked there Mr.John Randall and did runs to Scotland with the car carrier plus other things. We lived in Bunwell at the time. He would bring us things back from Scotland like Hankies and rock etc still have a lot of the gifts today. I cannot remember how long I worked there though. I had a man in Canada write to me also who worked there. Trying to find out about the place and what happened to it. I have pictures of my Dad when he worked there. Would love to here from people from back then would be about 1954.

I'm writing from Sydney, Australia. I came across your posting via Google whilst looking into some old Norwich history Sites. My Dad used to work at Mann Egertons on Prince of Wales road. . To be honest I don't know exactly when but i think it was during the late 50's. His name was Derek Miller but was known as Dusty. He died in 1983 but would often talk about it.

I too contacted the man in Canada a few years back but he couldn't remember him so i may be out with the dates.

I have been back to Norwich a few times in the past 10 years and there is still a petrol station there but i think the rest of the buildings have either been torn down or are now apartment blocks. Things are very different in Norwich to what I remember when i was younger.

I just found your message as I have not been on the site for a long while. I have not been back to Norwich since 1994 as my family have been coming here to USA. My family is getting shorter now as my brother in London died this past Christmas at 59 years old. My last trip home was in I believe 1990 and my Dad died in 1991 the reason for my visit. He owned a Driving School himself after I came to America and was really well liked and well known and the people could not fit into the church in Catton where his ashes are buried in front of the church. My Dad loved to talk and was still selling honey to the stores in Sprowston went with him when I was last home. He was well loved and met in the same store a girl I worked with at Mann Egertons but after all those years I could not remember her. I was working at Curls in Norwich when I came to USA in November 1965. Most of my family have gone now My Mother who was a Londoner died in her 50ths also my brother Larry in Norwich 58 years old. My step brother in Norwich still is there and we e-mail everyday and they come here to visit me in NY. Sorry I did not see your e-mail and your Dads name ring a bell but cannot place a face so many years ago now. I remember in Bunwell where we lived when Dad worked at Mann Egertons. He brought home this racing car he had to go pick up with all the dirt and numbers on it and us kids went wild over it and the whole of the Greenways had to come look at it. Dad I think did a little bit of everything there. I went to work at the Marshall Tire Company in the office after Mann Egertons loved it and fell in love with the tire changer cannot remember his name now, Haa. Do not know if it is still there on the street where the Brewery was.I have a lot of happy and sad memories of Norwich. My family tells me there is no space in Norwich anymore building everywhere.Sydney, Australia sounds a lovely place to live seen it on the TV travel shows. It has been a hard thing for me to do after living here 17 years but it has not sold in this bad market.
