I was walking along and saw an array of the most "sinful" cakes in the window!   I ignored the fact that I was trying to lose weight, shrugged my shoulders and walked in to order a pot of tea and a huge piece of chocolate cake - it was lovely! Byfords is on my list of where to go for a cup of tea and cake when in the vicinity.   Lynda  Technology is great when it works.    Report

02/05/2008, 10:04 PM rh7352@telus.net Joined on 12/04/2008 Alberta, Canada Posts 3 Re: My favourite teatime treat Back in 1959-63 my boyfriend(now husband) and I used to cycle to either Hadleigh or Sudbury on a Saturday afternoon to pick up some soft herring roes for tea.  There used to be  a really good wet fish shop in those towns.   If there were not enough loose ones on the slab, the fishmonger used to go into the back and I can remember him squeezing the herrings to find out which herrings were female.  We often came away with a large package of herring roes.  These were good fried up in good old lard and then served on hot buttered toast.  Alas they seem to a thing of the past, well over here anyway.  Perhaps next year on our visit, we will be able to indulge in this teatime treat once more.  B.
