Hello Norwich, my name is Ken Black and in 1962/63 I was assistant manager at The Sampson & Hercules Ballroom. I remember this and the people of Norwich with great affection. I am a Geordie (this may ring a bell with some people) living now 12 miles west of Alnwick Northumberland on the edge of the Cheviot Hills.

I would love to hear from any of the staff or old customers who may remember me or indeed anyone who remembers the good times we all  had at The Sampson & Hercules. I wonder how many relationships that were started there ended up in marriage ? It was a great way to meet people. Who could resist a smooch around the floor with a beautiful woman whilst listening to the Ken Stevens Big Band. Happy days, and we had many of them.

Sadly I hear that the old Sampson & Hercules is to be redeveloped as a site for housing. I just hope they retain the front of the building as it is of great historic interest to Norwich.

I can be contacted at   kenneth_black@hotmail.com

Best wishes to Norwich and its lovely people.

Ken

Hello Norwich, Ive now seen the finished conversion of the old Samson & Hercules ballroom and its good to see the front of the building restored.Thank goodness that part of the building  was a listed.  It was sad to see the ballroom demolished but time stands still for no one.

I am glad to say that Jackie who was on reception in 1962 is keeping in touch with me. Today I received a nice email from Patricia who used to go dancing at the ballroom and has many happy memories of the place. I still wonder what happened to many of the staff and old friends whom I hope are happy and well.

I must apologise for putting a P in my original posting of the Samson.

Best wishes to Norwich and all its lovely people.

Ken Black
