26/11/2007, 6:32 PM The Viva Man Joined on 26/11/2007 Posts 1 Eastern Counties ON THE BUSES.       My late father was a conductor with Eastern Counties up to 1958, going on to be a Driver right up to his retirement.   The photo on page 70 showing  the Bristol "K" series bus, you can see my dad going through a door on the left side, jacket in hand, his bus driver stopping to wait for him!    Also,   as coincidences,  the bus in the forground of the photo is reg.no. MAH 330.    I actually have that front number plate in a display cabinet at my home!     Also, a friend of mine, Jim, is one of the maintenence men seen in the photo taken at Cremorne lane standing on the ladder at the right !  Adrian Miller    Report

Joined on 25/06/2007 Posts 11 Re: Eastern Counties My late Father worked as a driver many years ago when we lived in Bunwell my brother & I lived with his parents and we would sit on this gate across the road to wait for the bus to go by and wave to him.  Not sure of the years but I have a lovely picture of him with his jacket on with it on the lapel.  I think I was about 10 or so and my brother 3 years younger and I will be 70 this year.My Dad had this conductor a lady and he ended up married to her and she became my step mum Mr. & Mrs. John Randall. both gone now.  I remember taking the bus to work to Norwich when I started work at Mann Egerton,s at age 15.  Also use to get mad as the bus would go home before the pictures ended.  Remember running to catch the last bus home to Bunwell.  I have great memories of the buses and when I worked in Norwich and moved there continued taking the buses.    Report

20/12/2009, 2:07 PM Tee Bee Joined on 04/02/2004 Posts 71 Re: Eastern Counties My uncle was a bus driver for Eastern Counties for many yrs, I have seen a picture of him in a book on Norwich with fellow drivers etc. He later retired, received his free bus pass which he used many many times from Attleborugh to Norwich. My uncle as i can remember never had a day of illness nor a day in hospital. One day while waiting at the bus stop in Norwich he dropped down dead. Always thought of this being his ticket to the other world...    Report

I usually traveled back and forth to Ipswich via bus most weekend and we used to taunt the driver because his name was 'Death'. We used to keep shouting 'Keep Death Of The Roads' Sorry about that, but I had to get it off my chest Terry    Report
