Funding your own retirement.
I was listening to the radio today (17/06/2011) and the subject of pensions was raised. It has been suggested that the public sector should consider working until 68 to put "more funds into their pension pot", personally I can't see too many going along with that unless it becomes compulsory. It made me think about us poor devils in the private sector, the government is always chuntering on about us putting more and more money away for our retirement as government funds will struggle to deal with an expanding population of old age pensioners. The crunch will come when my generation (born in the 50s) become 65+, naturally I can see the sense in putting money away for these times but, with increasing petrol, food, heating oil, gas, electricity, insurance premiums and possible offspring at university, combined with no increase in wages over the past 2-3 years, where is this money supposed to come from ?. I'm afraid in many, many ways the good times have gone and I see (unless you are very wealthy) very worrying times ahead.
