Hi Celia, My name is Norrie Day and i hail from Wairoa New Zealand. I was born in Norwich and my younger days were spent in Lakenham where we lived in Arnold Miller Road. I witnessed the awful days of the blitzes when as a small boy one learnt how to grow up quickly. I have been in NZ since 1958 and i love it though i must admit i still experience the odd pangs of homesickness for old Norfolk, i suppose till the day i die there will be part of me that will always remain a Norfolk boy. I still have two brothers in Norwich and a sister in Cromer. Norrie.

Hi  Celia, I'm in Hertfordshire but still miss Ipswich, we come back as often as possible but I tend to get lost these days as the area has changed so much. I have not lived in the area since 1967 and visits are only fleeting to see relations so tend not to go to town much,I would love to spend a week in Ipswich visiting my old haunts,if they are still there?.My single surname was Semmence and both my dad and uncle were Butchers, uncle on the Norwich Road and my dad in Coddenham. Best wishes to all Glenna.

Well, I am an Orford boy originally, but now I am living and working in Dublin, Ireland. I really miss Suffolk some times but try and keep in touch with what is going on through local websites.

For anyone who is interested I aslo have my own site dedicated to my father who was attendant at Orford Ness Lighthouse for over 20 yrs. http://www.orfordpiece.com

Hello! I'm Pam Spooner.  I now live in Austin, Texas, but was born and grew up in King's Lynn. We emigrated to Texas in 1963. Still have cousins there. My parents were Bob and Winnie Spooner. He was the foreman boilermaker at the original Dodman's on Gaywood Road for many many years. She was a dressmaker as a young woman and worked for the Hooks sisters on Gaywood Rd., in their sewing room at the top of their house overlooking the coalyard.  We lived up the street at #4, next to Sammy and Ernie Stinton's little shop on the corner of Gaywood Road and Highgate. (They make lovely ice cream on occasion.) My mother grew up in Highgate and my father, I believe, lived in Burkitt Street. I have had a lot of pleasure tracing our geneaology through the censuses. My maternal grandfather, Ernest Edward ***, was 'adopted' by William and Mary Ann Drew in 1870 as a young baby - we don't know why he went to live with them. If anyone reading this is a descendant of the Drews, perhaps you have that in your family stories and could help me solve that mystery. Mr. Drew was a seafaring man. Granddad was in the Boer War and also worked at Nicolls and Campbell for several years before his war injuries forced his retirement.

I would encourage everyone to collect your family stories and start looking at UK censuses now, before older relative pass on...they will be able to tell you many things you would not be able to find out from 'dry documents'and solve problems with your research that can save you hours of seaching.  I've talked much to long......Mind how you go, Pam
